From Colleague Tina O'Donnell..( RTÉ Vision Mixing - retired )

Sad to hear that Burt Budin has died.  I remember him from the early days when I started Vision Mixing. He was an exacting director and I learnt a lot from him.  He was directing the “Late Late” show on, I believe, the only Christmas day that it was transmitted.  It was also my 21st birthday and near the end of the show Burt sent me out to the Gantry where Gay invited the audience to sing Happy Birthday while Burt happily continued Vision mixing. A memorable night.   ....Tina O’Donnell

ORSON WELLES AT THE GATE THEATRE

A talk by Christopher Fitz-Simon at the Lexicon, Dun Laoghaire Library, on Tuesday 1st December at 6.30 pm sharp.

The library leaflet states:  “While researching material for his iconic biography The Boys (1994) author Christopher Fitz-Simon found startling and hilarious correspondence between Hilton Edwards, Micheál MacLíammóir and Orson Welles. It spanned 30 years – too much to fit into the book but it now forms the basis of this talk. Fitz-Simon was a drama producer with RTE and Literary Manager and Artistic Director, Abbey and Peacock Theatres.”

The Lexicon is 2 minutes’ walk along the seafront from Dun Laoghaire DART station and the 7 and 46A  busses. Underground parking.

Admission free. All welcome.

Know Your Christmas Postal Dates...

Don't know about you but every single year, without fail, the Christmas postal deadlines seem to sneak up on me so to save us all a little head-hanging, here are the dets for this year.

USA

Starting with one of the most urgent: The cut off for America is Monday December 7 for standard post parcels and registered post. We’ve an extra couple of days to send Christmas cards according to An Post (see below) with the deadline on Friday December 11. You can still send parcels stateside via International Courier until Monday December 21, if you’re in a bit of a jam and have an extra few euro to hand (at the most expensive time of the year).

REST OF WORLD
As for the Rest of the World (outside the US and Europe), the cut off date for letters, parcels and Registered Post is Monday December 7 and Friday December 18 for International Courier options(see below)

EUROPE
There is a lot more room to breathe for those sending cards and gifts to Europe as the deadline for parcels is Saturday December 12, Friday December 18 for letters and Registered Post and then Tuesday December 22 for International Courier (see below).

NORTHERN IRELAND & UK
The Northern Ireland and UK deadline for standard or Registered Post is Saturday December 19 and the day before, Friday December 18 for parcels (see below).

IRELAND
The latest posting dates to ensure your Christmas card or pressies are delivered ahead of the big day is Monday December 21, before 12pm (see below).

You’ll find out all you need to know here on the An Post website. Here’s to joining you getting in before these deadlines this year or I’ll have a lot of grovelling to do on Skype again this year.

Many thanks for this  to Taragh Loughery-Grant...

              Guinness Choir Christmas Concert

 Reminder

The Guinness Choir are performing their Christmas Concert on Sunday 6th. December at 6.30 in St. Patrick's Cathedral.  ( Note Early Start Time)   The music programme consists of works by Ralph Vaughan Williams and Christmas Carols.
This is an early evening concert and should appeal to those on their way home from shopping or before heading out to dinner in the city.  What a very pleasant way to spend an hour in the company of good choral singing in a wonderful setting and all for €15!
(Many thanks to colleague Patricia Swan for the above information) CB
