On 26th August 1866 Cardinal Cullen, Archbishop of Dublin, celebrated the opening of the new Church of the Sacred Heart for the Parish of Donnybrook with a High Mass.
We are now one hundred and fifty years since that momentous event in the history of the Church and plans are well advanced for a weekend of celebrations to commemorate that day.
Join the Parish Community in coming together to celebrate our beautiful church and the history of Christian presence in Donnybrook.
The origins of that history date back to the eight century when a holy woman named Broc had a place of worship by a well close to the River Dodder . She was a follower of a Christian movement called the Cheile De.The original name of this place was Domnach Broc from which derived the present,Donnybrook .Traces of that history have been noted in Donnybrook Graveyard and so on Sunday 28th August we will be taking a Journey Through Christian Donnybrook with members of the other denominations here and beyond the district on a walkabout of the Churches and the graveyard where the original Catholic Chapel and Church of Ireland were located.
This was the original design planned for the Church. But the spire was not finished. The tower was completed in January 1914 with turrets and parapet instead of a spire, at a cost of £1,200. .

RTÉ Drives Home Drama in Autumn Schedule
It's Dancing, Dates and Daniel as RTÉ launched its new Autumn TV season with a major emphasis on new investment in Drama.
The main focus of the launch was on a trio of brand new dramas, which the broadcaster says represents it's biggest spend in this area in six years. The highlight is Striking Out, a four-part drama starring Amy Huberman and Neil Morrissey. The drama tells the story of a solicitor, played by Huberman, who sets up her own practice after her fiancé and colleague, played by Rory Keenan, cheats on her.

Another new drama slated to appear is Acceptable Risk, a six-part thriller starring Elaine Cassidy and written by written by Ron Hutchinson, an Emmy-award winning LA-based screenwriter while Resistance, is a War of Independence drama from the makers of the recent 1916 drama Rebellionwhich goes into production in the coming months.

Another drama to keep an eye out for is My Mother and Other Strangers which is set in Northern Ireland and follows the fortunes of the Coyne family and their neighbours as they struggle to maintain a normal life after a huge US Air Force airfield arrives in the middle of their rural parish in 1943.
On the soapier side of things, EastEnders offshoot Redwater is on the way. When Kat (Jessie Wallace) and Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) arrive in Ireland from London to search for Kat’s long-lost son, they uncover secrets that the village of Redwater would rather were left buried at sea.

As well as a host of factual shows, there's comedy and entertainment series such as the Irish version of Dancing with the Stars which debuts in January, the welcome return of First Dates Ireland as well as new shows hosted by comedian Tommy Tiernan and heart-throb singer Nathan Carter.
Another show which looks promising is Then Comes Marriage? - a series where couples are put through a relationship bootcamp before getting hitched.
On the comedy front the big ticket show this year is Can’t Cope, Won’t Cope - a six-part, darkly comic series that's been penned by TV newcomer Stefanie Preissner and stars up-and-coming talents Seána Kerslake and Nika McGuigan who play a couple of wild at heart Cork twenty-somethings on the razz in Dublin. Oh and Amy Huberman will be making (another) appearance.

As for comedy, Bridget & Eamon will return for a second series, as will The Rubberbandits with The Rubberbandits’ Guides. Des Bishop will throw a eye over the issues that have exasperated the country for years in Des Bishop: This is Ireland. And yes the bould Mrs Brown will be back with more Christmas specials.
Meanwhile did someone say sleeper hit? Yes Daniel and Majella’s B&B Road Tripcomes to RTÉ One and sees the much-loved duo hit the road again with 12 new B&B owners serving up heart-warming experiences and maybe the odd viral hit or two
Daniel and Majella O'Donnell heading to a B&B near you
Over on RTÉ2 the ever popular Reality Bites series continues with a range of topical documentaries.
Vogue Williams investigates the growth in body dysmorphia, drugs culture, online bullying and transgenderism in four-parter Vogue Williams - On the Edge while author Louise O’Neill tackles the issue of consent in Reality Bites: Asking for It.
And it wouldn't be an RTÉ launch it it didn't include the return of some familiar faces, with big hits such as Room to Improve and Operation Transformation coming back, including a Celebrity version which is due to kick off soon.
At the launch, Adrian Lynch, channel controller for RTÉ One and RTÉ2, said the emphasis in the new Autumn schedule is on delivering "distinctly Irish programming" in particular homegrown drama, news and current affairs and documentaries.
He added that "With 35 new factual programmes in this year's line-up, RTÉ Television will cast an unflinching eye on a broad range of themes affecting Irish life."
Another drama to keep an eye out for is My Mother and Other Strangers which is set in Northern Ireland and follows the fortunes of the Coyne family and their neighbours as they struggle to maintain a normal life after a huge US Air Force airfield arrives in the middle of their rural parish in 1943.

Start the Week with a smile...
Don't Mess With Pensioners...
( With Thanks to colleague Peter Fletcher..)
If you are a Pensioner you will understand this one, if you deal with OAPs, this should help you understand them a little better, and if you are not a Pensioner yet........God willing, someday you will be.......
The £2.99 Special ..........
We went to breakfast at a restaurant where the 'OAP' special'
was two eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast for £2.99.
'Sounds good,' my wife said. 'But I don't want the eggs...'
'Then, I'll have to charge you £3.49 because you're ordering a la carte,' the waitress warned her.
'You mean I'd have to pay for not taking the eggs?' my wife asked incredulously.
'YES!' stated the waitress.
'I'll take the special then,' my wife said..
'How do you want your eggs?' the waitress asked.
'Raw and in the shell,' my wife replied.
She took the two eggs home and baked a cake.
DON'T MESS WITH PENSIONERS!!! They been around the block more than once! Send this to the OAPs in your life. I'm sure they'll appreciate it! Even non-pensioners will appreciate it!
(August has been a month of technical changes ... First it was Windows 10 and the changes that new operating software brought about.... then the RTÉ Email system was upgraded and we had to get over that and now the web editor and software for the Superann Website has been upgraded... all together a bit of an ordeal....Bear with me as I am trying to come to grips with the changes.......so I appreciate your patience as the photos and formating and various other elements of the Newsletter are very different......Many thanks ...CB )
That's all for now... Have a good week..
