Death of Arlette Ryan - daughter of colleague Anne C. Ryan formerly TV Entertainment
Our deepest sympathy to our colleague Anna C. Ryan and daughter Anna Gisela on the death of her daughter Arlette who died on the 7th November 2016 in Atlanta Georgia.. Anna has asked me to post the following tribute to Arlette..
..Arlette Frances Ryan
1958 – 2016.
Darling daughter of Anna C. Ryan and sister of Anna Gisela who passed away on Monday the 7thNovember 2016 from a devastating Breast Cancer which had graduated into the lymph nodes, while in her last home in the foothills hear Jasper, north of Atlanta, Georgia, where she had been living since she departed on leaving Muckross College and UCD with a degree in computer science continuing working with business studies in the USA. Before leaving Ireland, she was offered work experience in RTE’s Transport Division using her knowledge to assist with the setting up of the computer system. Arlette never forgot Ireland and particularly Co. Wicklow where the Ryan family lived. Seeing Irish people living on the streets of Dublin exercised her great pity for people in bad circumstances, and each annual visit to Ireland she would never pass someone who needed help but always talking to them and offering drink and food and money where needed for a bed for the night. Arlette is sadly missed by her sister Anna Gisela, mother Anna C, uncle Diarmuid and Aunt Kathy in the UK , 2nd cousin Diane Murray and the Murray family- Ireland and abroad. Also by her friend Philomena McColgan who was a great friend and help to her during her illness. She will be forever remembered with love and devotion by her heartbroken mother and sister.
Arlette cremation has taken place in Atlanta Georgia..Anna is having a private get together with family and close friends shortly.
May she rest in peace. CB

RTÉ Toy Show 2016

The biggest night on Irish television is here again with 320 children set to join Ryan Tubridy on The Late Late Toy Show .
Each one is a VIP. A ‘jungle VIP’ to be exact because the theme of this year’s Late Late Toy Show takes inspiration from one of the most beloved Disney musicals of all time – The Jungle Book. Ryan and a cast of 72 young performers will be hoping to jungle boogie their way into the nation’s heart with an opening number drawn from the movie.
Late Late Toy Show host Ryan Tubridy said: “I am tremendously excited that we are doing The Jungle Book this year. It’s a great classic, a real family favourite and something which I think everyone can enjoy whether they’re young or old, boy or girl. I may not be the king of the singers but I hope that for a couple of hours tonight people will get a chance to settle down with the family and forget all about their worries and their strife”.
The Late Late Toy Show airs tonight Friday, December 2nd at 9.35pm on RTÉ One.
This year’s Late Late Toy Show gathers together the biggest cast ever to take part. Between performers and toy demonstrators, more than 320 children from all over Ireland will participate in this year’s spectacular. The youngest is just four years old. The opening performance will feature 72 performers – plus Ryan – and is so big that it will take The Late Late Toy Show outside the studio to include other parts of the RTÉ campus.
Viewers can also expect a few surprises on the night.
The RTÉ costume and make-up departments have been working flat out over the past month to get ready for Friday’s show.
Head of RTÉ’s costume department Brigette Horan said: “It has been a pleasure to work on this year’s Late Late Toy Show. The Jungle Book theme has really inspired us and led to some of our most creative costume designs ever. It has been really fun to work on, particularly Ryan’s costume, which is a sight to behold!”
The set has been designed by Marcella Power and Catherine Sorg and has been months in the planning. Students from IADT Dun Laoghaire have been working on a top secret project since summer to help create some of the jungle creatures that will feature in the opening performance. Waterford’s Spraoi has also supplied parts of the set. The jungle fruits of everyone’s labour will be exclusively revealed in full on Friday night’s show.
As always, a number of charities have been invited to nominate children to experience the wonders of The Late Late Toy Show set in advance of tonight’s show. This year children from: LauraLynn Children’s Hospice; Heart Children Ireland; Our Lady’s Children Hospital, Crumlin; Barretstown and Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation will get to enjoy a sneak preview of the set and play with the toys. Their visit to the set will be captured on camera and broadcast during the show.
All the toys featured on the show will be donated to charity following the broadcast.
In addition, this year the countdown to The Late Late Toy Show kicks off live on Facebook. TV presenter Baz Ashmawy will bring viewers an exclusive look at what’s going on behind the scenes as Ryan and company get ready to go live to the nation. The Late Late Toy Show: The Final Countdown will start at 8pm sharp on RTÉ One’s Facebook page.
You can keep an eye on all the action on Twitter by following @RTELateLateShow and @RTEOne and the hashtag #LateLateToyShow with updates on the @RTEOne Instagram account and RTÉ One and Late Late Show Facebook accounts. On Snapchat you can follow the behind the scenes action live throughout the night on the rteonesnaps account and feel free to snap pics of you watching at home which we will re-share.
The Late Late Toy Show will be available to watch worldwide for free, live and on-demand on RTÉ Player, across Desktop, iOS and Android apps.
A list of the toys featured will be available on the show’s website www.rte.ie/tv/latelate following the show.
